Start with the load, not just the truck
Choosing a forklift begins with a description of the work. Record the heaviest load, pallet dimensions, load centre and any attachments you expect to use. A nominal capacity alone does not confirm suitability at every lift height: ask for the capacity information for the actual mast and attachment combination.
Measure the route
List the narrowest aisles, doorway clearances, rack heights and loading points. Send a simple layout to the supplier. Confirm the required aisle width using your pallet orientation rather than comparing turning-radius figures alone.

Specify the working day
- How many shifts will the truck operate?
- Where can charging take place?
- Which surfaces, ramps and indoor or outdoor areas are involved?
- Will the truck enter containers or other height-restricted spaces?
- Who will maintain the equipment locally?

A useful quotation should state the proposed model, mast, battery, charger, forks, attachments and exclusions. Ask the supplier to identify anything still subject to confirmation. Do not assume an optional feature is included because it appears in a photograph.
